Environmental justice, at its core, involves injustices suffered by those less fortunate, namely minorities and low income populations, due to environmental harms caused by government and corporate decisions. The movement in the United States began with a focus on racial discrimination in the siting of toxic pollution sources. The environmental justice movement today encompasses much more than just siting decisions; it includes issues regarding clean water and clean air in urban environments, lack of green space in cities, exposure to pesticides for farm labor, housing development, and everything in between. The environmental justice movement is about social justice and the disproportionate effects decisions at the top have on marginalized individuals and communities.
